Lesson Plans for August 31-September 4, 2015

Monday-

Objective:  Discuss Communication in school and in the workplace

Activities:  Student’s to take notes, participate in discussions.  They will then take the “Self-appraisal Communications survey” and be prepared to discuss their results with the class.

Tuesday-

Objective:  Non-verbal communication

Activities:  Students to take notes and participate in class discussions.  Students will participate in charades game when learning about gestures.  After discussing body language and posture, students will complete the worksheet “Gestures- What do they tell us”  and be prepared to discuss with the class.

Wednesday-

Topic:  Non-verbal communication (cont.)

Activities:  Students will continue taking notes and participating in class discussion.  Students will then use the Internet to find an example of how nonverbal communication can differ among cultures.  Be prepared to share with class.

Thursday-Friday

Topic:  Review of Non-verbal communication

Activities:  Students will use the Internet to find examples (in picture form) of each type of non-verbal communication and include in a PowerPoint presentation.  One slide for each type of Non-verbal communication.  Save to flash drive.

Monday-

About BIM II, Getting to know you activities

Tuesday-

Discuss class procedures, acceptable use policies,  school supplies, etc.

Homework:  Get classroom procedures signed by parent and parent subscribed to BIM II blog by Friday, August 28 (Daily grade). Also, need to try and have school supplies by Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Wednesday-

Discuss how to log on and use Google Drive.

Thursday-

Learn the basics of blogs and e-porfolios.

Friday-

Homework due:  Classroom procedures signed by parent and parent subscribed to BIM II blog  (Daily grade).

Topic:  Review blogs

Activities:  Students to finish updating their About me then make a new post about their first week in school.

Welcome to BIM II

Welcome to Business Information Management II (BIM II)!  In this class, students will apply skills to address business applications of emerging technologies, create complex word-processing documents, develop sophisticated spreadsheets using charts and graphs, and make an electronic presentation using appropriate multimedia software. Students will also complete a career unit in which they will investigate different careers of interest, learn how to fill out job applications, create resumes and cover letters, and interviewing techniques.  Students will also participate in creating and running a mock business within the school.

Prerequisite:  Business Information Management I (BIM I)

Supplies:

Three ring notebook

Package of dividers (5)

Pencil and pens

Red pen

Notebook paper or spiral

Ear buds or headphones

Flash drive (to be left in classroom)

Topics:  Excel chart reinforcement

Activities:  Students will complete Jobs 61 & 62 over charts in Excel.  Save and print when complete.

Tuesday-

Topics:  Excel chart review

Activities:  Students to complete review sheets over Excel charts using their notes. For homework if do not finish in class.

Wednesday-

Topics:  Excel chart review

Activities:  Review sheets due.  Students will then participate in review game over Excel charts.

Thursday-

Topic/Activities:  Test over Excel charts

Monday-

Topics:  Exam results; objectives for next chapter

Activities:  Students to define the vocabulary for Excel charts on opp. 506-507, 520, 526, 530 (20 words total).  If typed, students are to save work as Excel chart vocab into the Excel folder of their flash drive.  Print when complete.

Tuesday-

Topics:  Review of Excel charts; creating a column chart

Activities:  Students will take notes over Excel charts/Column charts and practice new learning on computer.

Wednesday-

Topics:  Column charts

Activities:  Students to complete Job 58 over creating a column chart in Excel on the computer.  Save and print when complete.

Thursday-

Topics:  Pie Charts

Activities:  Students to take notes over Pie charts in Excel and practice new learning on computer.

Friday-

Topics:  Pie Charts

Activities:  Students to complete Jobs 13 and 60 over creating a spreadsheet and pie chart in Excel on the computer.  Save and print when complete.

Topics:  Semester exam review

Activities:  Students will complete semester exam review over functions in Excel.  If don’t finish in class, for homework.

Tuesday-

Topics:  Semester exam review

Activities:  Will go over correct answers to semester exam review.   Time will be given to go over how to set up any functions or formatting in Excel on the computer.

Wednesday-

Monday-

Topics:  Review of other common functions (SUM, AVERAGE, MAX, MIN, COUNT)

Activities:  Students to take notes, practice functions with teacher, then complete function review on computer (Class grades).  Must use functions, not regular formulas.  Save and print when complete.

Tuesday-

Topics:  IF function

Activities:  Students to take notes, practice functions with teacher, then complete the “No jacket needed” exercise over the IF function on the computer.  Save and print when complete.

Wednesday

Topics:  PMT function

Activities:  Students to take notes, practice functions with teacher, then complete exercise over PMT function on computer (COMP).   Save and print when complete.

Thursday-Friday

Topics:  Reinforcement of PMT function and other personal business topics

Activities:  Students are to find two vehicles that they would like to purchase.  Must find cost of vehicle on Internet and note website where found.  Students are to then figure out monthly payments on their vehicles given different criteria.  Save and print when complete.

Activities:  Students to complete Job 11 (Earn) over formulas on the computer.  Save and print when complete.

Wednesday-

Topics:  Reinforcement of Excel formulas

Activities:  Students to complete Job 14 over formulas on the computer.  Save and print when complete.

Thursday-

Topics:  Reinforcement of Excel formulas.

Activities:  Students to complete Job 6 over formulas on the computer.  SAve and print when complete.

Friday-

Topics:  Review of Excel functions; SUM function

Activities:  Students to take notes, then complete Job 29 over the SUM function on the computer.  Save and print when complete.
