Activities:  Students to listen, take notes, and participate in class discussion.  Student will complete the listening activity with a partner using Tinker toys.  Will answer questions about the activity after completing.

Tuesday-

Topics:  Review of Communication and Active Listening

Activities:  Students to complete review questions over communication and active listening using their notes. If do not finish in class, for homework.  Due by the first of class Thursday.

Wednesday-

Early release-  Class will not meet

Topic:   Non-verbal communication (cont.)

Activities:  Students will continue taking notes and participating in class discussion.  Students will then use the Internet to find an example of how nonverbal communication can differ among cultures and be prepared to share with the class.

Wednesday-

**All juniors to take ASVAB test.  All other students to bring something to work on.**

Activities:  Student’s  to take notes, participate in discussions.  They will then take the “Self-appraisal Communications Survey” and be prepared to discuss their results with the class.

Friday-

Topic: Non-verbal communication

Activities:  Students to take notes and participate in class discussions.  Students will participate in charades game when learning about gestures.  After discussing body language and posture, students will complete the worksheet “Gestures- What do they tell us” and be prepared to discuss with the class.

About BIM II, Getting to know you activities

Tuesday-

Discuss class procedures, acceptable use policies,  school supplies, etc.

Homework:  Get classroom procedures signed by parent and parent subscribed to BIM II blog by Friday, August 29 (Daily grade). Also, need to try and have school supplies by Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Wednesday-

Discuss how to log on and use Google Drive.

Thursday-

Learn the basics of blogs and e-porfolios.

Friday-

Homework due:  Classroom procedures signed by parent and parent subscribed to BIM II blog  (Daily grade).

Topic:  Review blogs

Activities:  Students to finish updating their About me then make a new post about their first week in school.

Welcome to BIM II

Welcome to Business Information Management II (BIM II)!  In this class, students will apply skills to address business applications of emerging technologies, create complex word-processing documents, develop sophisticated spreadsheets using charts and graphs, and make an electronic presentation using appropriate multimedia software. Students will also complete a career unit in which they will investigate different careers of interest, learn how to fill out job applications, create resumes and cover letters, and interviewing techniques.  Students will also participate in creating and running a mock business within the school.

Prerequisite:  Business Information Management I (BIM I)

Supplies:

Three ring notebook

Package of dividers (5)

Pencil and pens

Red pen

Notebook paper or spiral

Ear buds or headphones

Package of printable sheet of business cards

Lesson Plans for May 12-16, 2014

Monday-

Objective-  Investigation of college and careers

Assessment-  Students to register on www.TexasCollegeandCareer.org.  Once registered, watch the “getting started” video.  Next, students are to click on the Home tab and then watch the “Building a College Portfolio” video.  After watching video, click on My Profile and fill in the profile information on each of the following tabs:  profile info, employment, activities, awards/honors, college list.  You may not have a lot to fill in now, buy you can add to this list each year that you are in high school.  Save all information and log off of website when complete.

Tuesday-

Objective-  Students will explore their interests and abilities with an online interest quiz.

Assessment-  Students will need to log onto www.TexasCollegeandCareer.org website.  Once logged on, click on the Planning tab.  From here, click on the “Get to know yourself” tab.  Watch the “identifying Interests video.”  After watching video, click the “What do I like” tab.  Click the “Start Quiz” button.  Take the quiz that appears following the directions as you go.  Quiz should take approximately 14 minutes.  Once you finish and get the results of your quiz, click on the My Interest tab.  Using the results of your quiz, choose 1 primary interest area and 2 secondary interest areas.  Look over the jobs within each category.  If time, do the “What do I value” quiz as well.

Monday- Wednesday

Objective:  Business project

Assessment:  Students are to finish the PowerPoint portion of Business project

Thursday-

Objective:  Preparation for presenting Business Project to investors

Assessment:  Students will be given time to prepare for presentation of Business project to investors.

Friday-

Objective:  Students will present their complete Business project to “investors”

Assessment:  Students will be given a test grade based on criteria to be included in presentations.  They will also be given an evaluation grade from each of their team members.

 

 

Lesson Plans for April 21-25, 2014

Monday-Friday:

Objective:  Business project presentation

Assessment:   Each student will be graded (test grade) on their part of business project presentation that they are assigned.  They will also be given a participation grade by each of their fellow team members (which will be averaged together for a second test grade). Completed project due Friday.  Presentations to investors on Monday of next week.

 

Lesson Plans for April 14-18

Monday-

Objective:  Continue with group business project

Assessment-  Students will complete the following duties within their groups: decide on a product/group of products/ or service to focus on as a result of the returned surveys; decide on best place to buy product(s) from, actual cost; decide on a selling price; come up with business name, company logo, product name (if applicable)

Tuesday-

Objective:  Discuss forms of advertising

Assessment- Students to take notes then complete duties for the day including:  come up with a unique advertisement for their product/service and answer several questions regarding advertiding; decide on a location for business; finish any unfinished duties  from previous work days

Wednesday-Thursday

Objective:  Discuss criteria for business presentation to investors

Assessment:  Students to decide who is going to do what parts on presentation.  They are to then work on PowerPoint portion of business project.

Friday-

Holiday!

Wednesday-

Students need to bring something to read or work on due to me being gone with tennis. 

Thursday-

We will pass out the questionnaires that you designed to put in teacher boxes for teachers to give out during enrichment.

Friday-

Evaluate returned questionnaires.  If time, use results to make a decision on business angle to pursue for project.
